3-Violin Module 1 Beginner Bowing - Speed Exercises

Walking bows

The Walking bows exercise is a constant walking speed of the open strings. you don't need to use your fingers.....just a great bow hold so you can develop a great bowing technique

Running Bows

Running bows are even stroke counting 8 bows and then starting again. You could add words like 'See You Later Alligator' or '1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8' Be creative. Then try to put two counts on one bow stroke. Next try four counts to one stroke so you would have just one down bow and then one up bow counting 4 beats on each stroke.

Jump Rope Bows

Jump Rope Bows are an exercise in learning to count. Pulling the bow down for 2 counts and then up for two on different strings is a skill that has to be practiced. Have fun. You can do this.

Hopping Bows

Hopping bows include a down-bow and an up-bow. The up-bow is like a 'hic cup' Smooth down to the count of 3 and then an up to the count of one.

Rolling Around Bows

Wow.....this makes you a little dizzy. You will roll around the strings. Have fun with this and try to make a great sound from the bow as you play. Here is a hint: If you have a great bow hold and bent thumb...chances are you will get a good sound.

Stretching bows

Take your time. Make your bow stretch and move your arm and elbow up and down.

Toe Touching Bows

You will be going to the string farthest away from your bow hand. This is a bit of a challenge as you attempt to keep a great sound with no squeaks as you move from one string to the other.

Twirling Bows

Twirling bows can be played quickly or slowly but the challenge is to cross the strings with a clean sound.
